Transform you church into a Babylonian adventure with these fun VBS decorating ideas and tips!
Pictured above: stone backdrop, stone with dirt floor backdrop, plastic gold bars and ivy garlands.
Stone Backdrops – Easily create a Babylonian scene with stone wall backdrops! They cover a lot of area and can transform a room into a castle in minutes! In the picture above, we used two different backdrops (stone and stone with dirt floor), added some ivy garland (by taping it to the wall) and some plastic gold bars!
Colored Butcher Paper – Our Facebook Fan Christen Louise said “Colored Butcher Paper makes great “trees”, “Rocks”, “bushes” etc. Plus it is totally recyclable at the end of the week! Some of the “trees” from the previous years are now part of the decor of our preschool wing!
”
Artificial Plants and Trees – Ask members of your congregation to donate their artificial plants and trees to decorate rooms, windows and more! Using artificial plants can really turn a room into a Babylonian scene.

Cardboard Box Temple – You can use cardboard boxes to make Babylonian temples. Stack the boxes like a pyramid and decorate with artificial plants or ivy garlands! You can even stack some gold bars around the base of the cardboard boxes.

Cool Flowing River – In the picture above we created a cool flower river scene with the sky and stone with dirt floor backdrops, palm trees and blue cellophane. You could also use blue sheets or paper to create the river. The neat thing about cellophane is that you can add things under it (fish, stones and more) and it looks like they are actually in the water!
Cardboard Box Lion – We searched the web and found this really cool cardboard box lion! These would be fun to make and great to have outside doorways and in classrooms. Click the link to view the image!

We plan on lining our hwlyaals with thick construction paper (bought at Lowes) and painting murals of animals and creation. We will give a 3-D afffect to any clouds on the walls by cutting them out of foam board and blocking them out from the wall a couple of inches. We will have large cutouts of animals as well. We have the stage backdrop framework already built and we are going to face it with thick double wall cardboard (from a packaging company) and then paint it to look just like the book with the incrediworld logo. We plan on decorating the Teaching with the hanging clouds (foam board or cardboard) with cutouts of animals. One of the greatest decorations that we will have this year is a animatronic dinosaur. His name is Kota and we bought him off of craigslist at a fraction of the retail price. He can give children rides. It will be awesome to see their faces. We have a lot of work to do yet, but we are determined to make this our best Bible School yet. We are passionate about teaching the truth of Creation to the kids of our city!
